SPARTANS FACE FIRST ROAD MW TESTS THIS WEEK : After spending the past two weeks playing home matches, the San José State volleyball takes to the road this week for two Mountain West matches against two teams that are also tough on their homecourts. The Spartans face Boise State Thursday night inside Bronco Gym, and Utah State Saturday afternoon inside the Wayne Estes Center.

Bump, Set, Spike
•The Spartans enter this week with a four-match winning streak and sit atop the Mountain West standings with a 2-0 record, tied with New Mexico and Colorado State. SJSU swept defending MW champs UNLV last Thursday and San Diego State this past Saturday. Since joining the conference in 2013, the team has not started the conference undefeated and atop the standings after the first weekend. The Spartans started the 2015 season 1-0 after a five-set win at Fresno State but lost the next match at UNLV.

•Nationally, the Spartans are second in service aces per set at 2.27.

•Senior Sarah Smevog was honored as MW Defensive Player of the Week after averaging 5.00 digs, 1.17 assists and 1.17 service aces per set last week as the Spartans went 2-0.

•Smevog has her own 1,000 countdown going as she needs just 35 digs to become the ninth player in school history to reach this milestone.

•Haylee Nelson had the best hitting match of her career in the three-set win over San Diego State. She hit .630 with a season-best 18 kills on 27 attempts and only one hitting error. That error came in the middle of the third set.
