COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo..—San José State senior libero Sarah Smevog has been named the Mountain West Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for her play in the Spartans two wins last week.
Smevog averaged 5.57 digs, 1.00 assists and 0.29 service aces in seven sets played in the wins over Sacramento State and Saint Mary's. She recorded her 13th match with 20 or more digs in the win over Gaels Friday night. Smevog had 22 digs to lead all players and added season-bests of five assists and two aces in the match. She also led all players in digs with 17 in the sweep over Sacramento State last Thursday night.

Smevog and the Spartans are currently 4-1 on the season, have a three-match winning streak and are off to the team's best start since the 2017 season when the team won seven of their first eight matches played.
San José State travels to the state of Colorado this week for matches at Northern Colorado on Thursday and two matches at the Buffs Invitational – Friday versus Colorado and Saturday versus Texas Tech.
