Construction To Begin On Phase I of Spartan Baseball Facility

San Jose, Calif.—The San José State University Athletics Department announces the construction of Phase I of the Spartan Baseball Practice Facility. This project is made possible through the investments of several benefactors, including a recent anonymous donor whose gift capped off the drive to fund Phase I for Spartan Baseball.

"We have an amazing group of donors and supporters who continue to invest in the revitalization of facilities on South Campus that benefits the student-athlete experience," said Marie Tuite, San José State director of athletics. "I want to give a sincere and heartfelt 'Thank You' to all our baseball donors who have made the practice facility possible for our baseball team."

The baseball practice field is part of the two-phase Spartan Diamond project. The first phase is the construction of a practice field next to the East Fieldhouse on 10th Street. The practice field, located next to the current baseball locker room and coaches' offices, will give the team its own location to train while still playing games down the road at Excite Ballpark. The Spartans share the city-owned stadium with the San Jose Giants. The second phase of the project is the construction of a stadium around the existing practice field, continuing the transformation of the Spartan South Campus athletics facilities.

"This is a major step for our program and our student-athletes' development. The facility is a huge piece in sustaining long-term growth and success in the Mountain West and beyond. Our student-athletes will have a state-of-the art facility on campus, and recruits will see the level of commitment San José State has for Spartan Baseball. We are forever grateful to everyone that has generously given to this project to make it a reality," stated Brad Sanfilippo, San José State head baseball coach.

"We are very grateful for the incredible Spartans that have invested in our baseball student-athletes to make this facility possible," said Rob Clark, deputy director of athletics development. "Spartan Nation is on the rise and continues to elevate the student-athlete experience through continued investment and support."
