The Surging Spartans
• San José State is ranked tied for ninth in the September 27 Collegiate Water Polo Association national poll. The Spartans are making their first appearance in the top-10 in 2021.
• The Spartans enter the UCLA match with a three-match winning streak, their longest of the season, and have victories in five of their last six matches.
• UCLA is the tenth top-10 team San Jose State is facing this season. The Spartans notched their first win of the season against a top-10 team when they defeated No.9-ranked UC San Diego, 14-13, in their final match in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Invitational in Berkeley, Calif., on September 26.
• In three of the last four matches, San Jose State converted more tha 50 percent of its power-play opportunities. for the season, the Spartans are scoring at a 33.1 percent rate on the power play.
• Niels Hofmeijer is the national leader in sprint victories with 38 on the season. He has an .864 winning percentage (38-out-of-44) in opening period sprints in 2021. He also is tied for seventh nationally in steals with 20.
• Yahav Fire continues as one of the top goalkeepers nationally. He is the national leader with 141 saves, is third making 10.8 saves per contest and is sixth nationally with a .522 save percentage,
