Volleyball Falls 3-1 To MW Leader Colorado State

SAN JOSE, Calif.—Haylee Nelson led a trio of hitters in kills Saturday afternoon as the San José State volleyball team lost a four-set match to Colorado State 3-1 inside Spartan Gym.
 

 
•Nelson led the Spartans in kills for the second consecutive match with 16 on 37 attempts. She also had six digs, an ace and an assist.
 
•Ryann Thomison hit .462 for the match with 14 kills on 26 attempts and only two errors.  She also recorded three blocks in the match.
 
•Amethyst Harper recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 10 digs. She also had two blocks and hit .290 on the day.
 
•Mia Schafer recorded her second double-double of the week and fifth of the season with 42 assists and 11 digs. She also had three blocks, a kill and an ace.
 
•Four Spartans recorded double-digit digs on Saturday, led by Letizia Cammillucci with 12, followed by Schafer at 11 and Harper and Sarah Smevog at 10.
 
•In only her second match played, Alyssa Bjork led the Spartans in blocking with four, one solo and three block assists.


 
Match Summary
Set 1 – The Spartans jumped out to a 13-9 lead on a Thomison kill, but the Rams used a 16-6 run to win the set 25-19.
 
Set 2 – San José State's only deficit in the set was at 1-0, and led 15-10 at the media timeout, winning 25-18 on a kill by Madeline Boerstra, who had six kills in the match.
 
Set 3 – The Spartans scored the first two points of the set, fell behind by as many as six at 18-12, but fought back to tie the set at 23-23. SJSU fought off set point at 24 on a Schafer and Thomison block, but CSU won 26-24 on a service ace.
 
Set 4 – SJSU again took a 2-0 lead to start and led 9-8 on a Schafer kill. Colorado State then scored the next three points to take the lead for good to go onto a 25-20 win.
 
San José State finishes the homestand on Tuesday, October 12, against Nevada. First serve is set for 6 p.m., inside Spartan Gym.
