Spartans Back on Winning Track With Sweep of Nevada

SAN JOSE, Calif.—Mia Schafer recorded her third consecutive double-double, and three Spartans recorded double-digit kills as the San José State volleyball team got back on the winning track with a 3-0 win over Nevada Tuesday night inside of Spartan Gym.
 

 
•Schafer recorded 36 assists and 10 digs on the night for her sixth double-double of the season and 11th of her career. Her only kill of the night came on a rally that lasted over a minute and ended as she sent the ball over to drop between the Wolf Pack. Shafer also added two blocks in the win.
 
•Latahevai Lousi returned to the court to lead the Spartans with 12 kills and hit .409 for the match (12-3-22). She also moved into 13th all-time on the San José State career kills list at 1,074 kills, passing Hanah Blume with 1,064.
 
•Haylee Nelson had 11 kills and led the team with three service aces. She also recorded five digs and two block assists.
 
•Letizia Cammillucci added 10 kills, six digs and a solo block.
 
•Sarah Smevog moved into eighth all-time on the Spartan career dig list. She led the Spartans with 14 digs and now has 1,049 digs in her three-plus seasons, passing Barbara Higgins who had 1,039 digs from 1984-87. Smevog needs only three digs to move into sixth place with Joslynn Gallop and Chirstina Lukens with 1,052 digs.
 
•The Spartans stopped a three-match losing streak Tuesday night. The team will look to extend the streak on Thursday when the team plays at Fresno State beginning at 6 p.m.


 
Match Summary
Set 1 – The Spartans got down early, trailing by as many as eight at 15-7 at the media timeout. Slowly chipping away at the Wolf Pack lead, the Spartans did not take the lead until set point at 25-24 on a Cammillucci service ace. Thomison put down the kill for the 26-24 win
 
Set 2 – The set featured nine tied scores and seven lead changes. The Spartans took the lead for good at 21-20 on a Wolf Pack hitting error and won the set 25-22 on a Cammillucci solo block.


 
Set 3 – San José State led from first serve and won the set 25-13 on a Nelson service ace.
 
San José State def. Nevada 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-13).
