SAN JOSE, Calif. – San José State is set to return home this week as the program looks to set its Spartan Soccer Complex attendance record against No. 10 Grand Canyon on Saturday night.

Students will receive free admission and get free pizza upon arrival. It's also alumni night in conjunction with homecoming week - all men's soccer alumni who RSVP through the coaching staff will receive free admission in addition to a Spartan t-shirt.

First Touches

  • No. 10 Grand Canyon is off to a 10-1 start and is a perfect 5-0 in WAC play under first-year head coach Leonard Griffin. The Lopes have won eight consecutive matches, outscoring their opponents 23-5 in that stretch. The defending WAC regular season champion are 4-1 on the road this season, the lone defeat coming at No. 5 Washington.

  • Goalkeeper David Sweeney was named the WAC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for a second straight week. He is the first Spartan in school history to receive four total conference player of the week awards and the first in 20 years to earn such an award in consecutive weeks.

  • SJSU's 3-1-1 start to conference play is its best through five league matches since 2018 (also started 3-1-1).

  • Senior Willy Miranda currently ranks No. 16 nationally in shot accuracy, scoring at a 62% clip so far this season.
  • Despite having the nation's toughest travel schedule for conference matches, San José State has seen plenty of success in league road contests as of late. The program has earned a result in seven of their last eight matches away from home against WAC opponents, adding to that list with a win at Utah Valley and draw at California Baptist a week ago.
