SAN JOSE, Calif. - True freshman goalkeeper Autum Monty and the San Jose State Defense was tasked with trying to contain one of the top scoring offenses in the Mountain West on Thursday evening, and they rose to the occasion in spectacular fashion. Behind a six-save performance from Monty, San Jose State women's soccer shutout New Mexico, the Mountain West leader with 2.15 goals per game, to pick up three huge points in the MW standings in front of the home crowd. The shutout was the first the Lobos' have suffered in league play this season.
It was sophomore Evan House that made the offensive difference, scoring her second goal of the season in the 58th minute that would prove to be the game-winner. The defense flexed their muscles the rest of the night and kept the potent Lobo Offense at bay to hold on for the 1-0 victory. The win gives San Jose State 12 points in the MW standings, putting the Spartans in a current tie for third place with four matches remaining.

- The shutout was the fourth for the Spartans this season and second solo shutout of Monty's freshman campaign.
- Monty finished the night with a season-high six saves.
- House's goal was the second of her sophomore campaign and third of her career. The Visalia native broke through the right corner of the box, put a move on a defender and fired off the shot to the bottom left corner.

- House now ranks second on the team with seven points (two goals, three assists).
- After the go-ahead score, it was up to the defense to hold on for dear life against a team that features three players ranked in the top five of the MW in goals on the season. They were more than capable of rising to the occasion as they held the Lobos to just four more shot attempts in the final 30 minutes of game time.

- The Spartans held a 15-13 advantage in shots, while both teams put six shots on frame. SJSU also held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
- Karlee Pottorff attempted three shots to lead the Spartans while the Lobos' Maysa Walters put three of her game-high four attempts on frame.
The Spartans (7-8-0, 4-3-0 MW) have another tough task ahead of them on Sunday as the Aztecs of San Diego State (6-8-0, 4-2-0 MW) come to town for a noon kick. San Jose State will honor their seniors prior to kickoff in an on-field ceremony as part of Senior Day festivities.
