Volleyball Sweeps Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif.—Madeline Boerstra had a season-best 10 kills to help lead the San José State volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of Fresno State Thursday night at the Save Mart Center in Fresno.
 

 
•Boerstra was the only Spartan with double-digit kills as five Spartans recorded at least two kills in the match. Latahevai Lousi added nine kills, while Haylee Nelson had six kills and 11 digs.
 
•With 16 digs tonight, Sarah Smevog moved into sixth place all-time on the SJSU career digs list with 1,065 digs, passing Joslynn Gallop and Christina Lukens.
 
•The Spartans continued their tough serving with nine aces in the three sets, led by Mia Schafer with three, all in the first five points of the second set.
 
•SJSU recorded 11 blocks in the win with a season-high 20 block assists. Yazmin Pitpit led the team with a career-best six blocks, followed by Ryann Thomison with five, one solo and four assists.
 
•The Spartans evened their record at the Save Mart Center at 7-7 with the win.
 
•San José State next plays on Thursday, October 21 at New Mexico. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. MT/5:30 p.m. PT. Fans can watch on the Mountain West Network.

Set. 2 – The Spartans jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, three of those points on Schafer service aces, and led by as many as 14 points (20-6) during the set and won 25-14.
 

 
Set 3 – The two teams battled in the set, with three lead changes and five tied scores early on in the set. Nelson gave SJSU a 10-9 lead and the team never relinquished the lead in the 25-21 win.
