COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—San José State freshman outside hitter Madeline Boerstra has been honored as the Mountain West Freshman of the Week for matches played October 11-16.
Boerstra helped the Spartans to sweeps of Nevada and Fresno State last week. Starting at middle blocker against Nevada, she recorded three kills, two digs and two blocks in the match. At Fresno State, she led the Spartans with a season-best 10 kills as she moved back to outside hitter. For the week, she averaged 2.17 kills, 0.50 blocks and 2.58 points per set.
San José State is 11-7 on the season and 5-3 in the MW, tied for third place in the standings with New Mexico and UNLV. The Spartans play at New Mexico Thursday night before returning home to face Air Force on Saturday at 1 p.m.
