SAN JOSE, Calif. - Coming off a big weekend in which they picked up four crucial points against New Mexico and San Diego State, San Jose State women's soccer is looking to lock up their spot in the Mountain West Tournament by keeping the momentum rolling this weekend on the road against UNLV and Nevada. The Spartans (7-8-1, 4-3-1 MW) are currently tied for fourth in the standings with 13 points with just three regular-season matches remaining on the schedule.

First Touches

  • Freshman goalkeeper Autum Monty is coming off a fantastic weekend in the net in which she made 14 total saves en route to back-to-back shutouts against New Mexico and San Diego State. Monty was rewarded for her efforts by being named both the Mountain West Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week.
  • Monty started the weekend by making six saves against the Lobos in a 1-0 shutout victory. She followed that by making a career-high eight saves against the Aztecs in a 0-0 tie.
  • UNLV is currently ninth in the MW Standings with a 3-5 mark in league play, however the Rebels are one of just three teams in the league to reach 10 overall wins on the season. They are coming off a 1-1 weekend in which they took down Wyoming, 1-0, before falling 2-1 in overtime at Colorado State.
  • The Rebels are led by Jenny Ruiz-Williams in her second season at the helm. As a team they rank second in the league in goals per game (1.647). It has been a balanced offensive approach with 12 different Rebels securing at least one goal, with seven netting multiple goals.
  • UNLV leads the overall series 6-3-1 and are 3-2-0 in games played in Sin City. The Rebels took both matches in 2020 in 3-0 finals putting an end to a streak of four-straight results for the Spartans.
  • Nevada currently finds themselves at the bottom of the MW Standings with a 2-4-2 record. The Wolf Pack is 3-10-2 overall. After a rough start to the season, Nevada rattled off three-straight results with wins over Air Force and San Diego State, and a 1-1 tie with New Mexico before going 0-2 last weekend against Colorado State and Wyoming.
  • Led by Erin Otagaki in her fourth season, the Wolf Pack has a youthful program with 60 percent of their goals on the year scored by freshmen.
  • The Spartans hold a 16-5-2 advantage in the all-time series against the Wolf Pack. San Jose State has won six of the last seven meetings dating back to 2015 with the lone exception being a 1-1 tie last season in Reno.
