No. 10-Spartans With Six-Match Winning Streak

SAN JOSE, Calif.----- The San Jose State University men's water polo team completed its most successful weekend of action of the season winning three matches on the second and final day of the Julian Fraser Memorial Invitational.

The Spartans (14-12) topped Brown University, 16-10 then easily handled Fresno Pacific, 20-5, and Biola, 17-6, to conclude a busy weekend of five matches. No.10-ranked San Jose State opened the weekend with wins over No.14 UC Irvine, 12-10, and No.12 Princeton, 11-7.

The Spartans now have a six-match winning streak, the longest by the program since it was reinstated in 2015 after a 34-year absence. San Jose State has at least six chances to notch one more win and pass the 2017 squad that finished with a 14-16 win-loss record for most wins in a season since 2015.

The 2017 team was the last Spartan squad above the .500 mark at any point in the season until San Jose State handled Fresno Pacific for the second time this season.

Mark Kis and Bende Pardi were the Spartans big scorers for the weekend with 13 goals each in four matches. Each player had a five-goal flurry – Kis, in the Princeton victory and Pardi, against Fresno Pacific making all five of his shot attempts.

Goalkeeper Yahav Fire only played in the victory over Brown and was credited with 12 saves. Jamie Steingraf and Zoltan Der shared the goalkeeping chores against Fresno Pacific and Biola. Steingraf played the first half and Der, the second, in each of those contests.

San Jose State resumes Golden Coast Conference action, Saturday, October 30 hosting Pepperdine in a 1:00 p.m. contest at the Student Union Recreation Center located in the middle of the campus.
