RENO, Nev.—Haylee Nelson recorded her 1,000th career kill in the fourth set Tuesday night, and Latahevai Lousi had one of her best of hitting nights as the San José State volleyball team needed five sets to win at Nevada 3-2 (25-21, 20-25, 25-12, 23-25, 15-12) in a Mountain West match at the Virginia Street Gym.

•Nelson became the 16th player in school history to record 1,000 career kills, joining Lousi who accomplished the feat in mid-September. Nelson had 18 kills in the match and ends the night with 1,005 career kills
•Lousi hit a season-best .500 with a season-high 21 kills on 36 attempts and only three hitting errors. She moved into 11th place on the San José State career kills list with 1,130 kills, passing Nandyala Gama who had 1,114 kills from 2014-17.
•Madeline Boerstra had a season-best 13 kills in the match, including the game-winner, and added four digs and a block.
•Mia Schafer recorded her seventh double-double of the year with a season-best 52 assists and 15 digs.
•Lousi and Yazmin Pitpit combined for six of the 10 Spartan blocks Tuesday night. Lousi finished the night with a team-best seven digs.
•Sarah Smevog led a trio of players with double-digit digs with 18, followed by Schafer at 15 and Letizia Cammillucci with 10.
•The Spartans improve to 14-7 on the season and 8-3 in the MW and have a five-match winning streak, matching the longest of the season from mid to late September.
Match Summary
Set 1 – The Spartans led from first serve, jumped out to an early 7-1 lead and maintained that lead to win 25-21.
Set 2 – San José State had an early 8-5 lead, but Nevada used a 5-1 scoring run to take a 10-9 en route to a 25-20 win.
Set 3 – Early in the set, neither team led by more than one point before SJSU used a 12-3 run to lead 16-7 and win the set 25-12.
Set 4 – Nelson recorded her 1,000th career kill on the second Spartan point of the set, but San José State fell behind 14-7. SJSU got within one point at the end of the set, 23-22, but Nevada scored two of the final three points to win 25-23.
Set 5 – The Spartans trailed 10-7 but scored eight of the final 10 points to win 15-12, getting three kills from Lousi, two from Nelson and the game-winner from Boerstra.
San José State returns home this Saturday evening for a match against Fresno State. First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside Spartan Gym.
