San José State record:
3-2, 1-0 Mountain West. Most recently, the Spartans defeated New Mexico State, 37-31, on October 2. The Spartans have wins in two of their last three games since a September 11 bye week.

Colorado State record: 1-3, 0-0 Mountain West. Most recently, the Rams lost to No. 6/No. 5 Iowa, 24-14, on September 25.

Series history: Colorado State leads the series, 6-4. The two teams are meeting for the first time since 2018.
The Rams have wins in each of the last three meetings including a 42-30 win in San Jose on October 6, 2018. In that game, the Spartans trailed 28-0 at halftime, and went into the fourth quarter ahead, 30-28.
San Jose State is 2-3 in games played in Fort Collins including a 34-27 win in 2013.

Seeking first winning streak of the season: In 2021, San Jose State is alternating wins and losses throughout the first half of its schedule. The Spartans have wins in games one vs. Southern Utah, three at Hawai'i, and five vs. New Mexico State, and losses in game  two to USC and four at Western Michigan.

Spartans with nine consecutive Mountain West victories: San José State's win over Hawai'i extends the Spartans' Mountain West's longest active winning streak against conference opponents to nine victories. San Jose State won its final 2019 conference game and at home against Fresno State, its six Mountain West contests in 2020, and defeated Boise State for the 2020 Mountain West championship.
Prior to the current streak, the Spartans' four-game conference winning streak in 2013 was San José State's longest as a Mountain West member.

Best 25-game plus stretch since 2012 & 2013:  In San Jose State's last 25 games, the Spartans have a 15-10 win-loss record. Currently, 3-2 before the Colorado State game, San Jose State was 5-7 in 2019 and 7-1 in 2020.
The last time the Spartans had a better span of 25 games was at the end of 2011, all of  2012 and the first eight games of 2013 when San Jose State was 18-7. The Spartans finished 2011 with two victories, were 11-2 in 2012, and 5-5 in 2013.

Three blocked kicks in 2021: After five games, San Jose State is one of nine teams tied for third nationally in blocked kicks with three in games played through October 2. The Spartans are credited with two blocked punts and a blocked PAT attempt.
San Jose State's first block of the season and first punt blocked in four years was on a Southern Utah punt that was credited as a 20-yard punt.
At Hawai'i, Kairee Robinson blocked a second quarter punt which the Spartans eventually turned into a touchdown seven plays later.
At Western Michigan, San Jose State's Hadari Darden blocked an extra point attempt in the first quarter to keep the score at 6-3 in Western Michigan's favor.

Punting game a plus for San Jose State: San Jose State heads into the Colorado State game ranked 23rd nationally in net punting with a 42.36 average. After five games, Spartan opponents have 14 yards of punt returns, 26th best in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). USC's K.D. Nixon accounts for nearly the complete total with a 15-yard return against the Spartans on September 4.
San Jose State's Will Hart ranks 24th individually in punting with a 45.0 average.

Passing efficiency ratings: In two of San Jose State's three wins this season, the Spartans scored 35 or more points with quarterbacks achieving two of the top-10 single-game passing efficiency ratings in school history.
Nick Nash's 228.40 efficiency rating is the highest rating by a player in his first start as a San Jose State quarterback.

Season rushing high: The New Mexico State win marked the first time this season San Jose State rushed for more than 200 yards. The Spartans gained 209 yards and scored two touchdowns on 36 carries.
