Spartans Open Golden Coast Conference Action

• The Spartans (8-10, 0-0 GCC) and the University of the Pacific (5-7, 0-0 GCC) meet for the second time this season - this time in a Golden Coast Conference contest

• Pacific edged San Jose State, 12-11 in overtime, when the teams met on September 5 to open the season. Mark Kis, second on the Spartans in goal scoring with 24, scored four times for San Jose State.

* The Golden Coast Conference is one of the most competitive conferences nationally. All six teams are ranked in the top-12 in the October 6 Collegiate Water Polo Association national poll.

• Yahav Fire continues to lead the nation in goalkeeper saves. He stopped a season-high 20 shots in the first match vs. UOP and matched that total in the October 2 win at Navy. Fire has 181 saves for the season. He also is fifth nationally in saves percentage at .532. Nic Porter of USC is the national leader at .584.

• Niels Hofmeijer also continues as the national leader in sprint victories. After winning all his sprints in the Spartans' three matches last weekend, he has 49 for the season in 55 sprints for an .891 success rate. Hofmeijer also ranks 10th nationally in steals with 23 in 18 matches.
