• San José State returns home with a 9-5 overall record and 3-1 mark in the MW. The Spartans are tied for first place with four other teams - New Mexico, UNLV, Utah State and Colorado State. The team split last week's matches, winning 3-2 at Boise State last Thursday before falling at Utah State, 0-3.

• After two weeks of play, five teams are tied for first in the Mountain West standings. The Spartans are one of five teams, including this week's opponent Colorado State, who begin the week at 3-1 in conference play.  Since joining the conference in 2013, SJSU has not started conference play atop the standings after the first two weeks of play.

The Spartans are a perfect 5-0 at home this season to start the 2021 season. The team has swept four of its five opponents, losing just the first set to UC San Diego on September 18.

•The Spartans play one match at home each of the next four weeks in October beginning with two matches this week. The team hosts Nevada on the 12th, Air Force on the 23rd and Fresno State on the 30th.

The Spartans played their first five-set match of the season at Boise State and rallied for the 3-2 win on an Amethyst Harper service ace. After winning a back-and-forth first set 28-26, San José State fell in the next two sets, 15-25 and 7-25, before rallying in the final two sets to 25-21 and 15-13. The final set featured nine tied scores and five lead changes before SJSU used a 4-0 scoring run to win the set and match 15-13.

• The latest Spartan to reach a 1,000-stat milestone in her career is senior libero Sarah Smevog. She recorded her 1,000th career dig in the match at Utah State on October 2, becoming the ninth player in SJSU history to record 1,000 digs. Smevog begins the week with 1,001 digs and needs 38 digs to move into ninth all-time at 1,039 digs.
