Spartans Fall To Colorado State, 32-14

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Junior quarterback Nick Nash threw for 154 yards and a pair of touchdowns in his second-straight start under center for San Jose State football in their Mountain West road contest against Colorado State.The Irvine, Calif., native connected on scores of 18 and 34 yards to Derrick Deese, Jr. and Isaiah Hamilton, respectively, but it wasn't enough to keep the Spartans from dropping the MW matchup by a 32-14 final Saturday afternoon at Canvas Stadium. The loss snapped a nine-game winning streak over Mountain West opponents in the regular season. 
 


The San Jose State Defense did all they could in a bend-but-not-break effort, holding Colorado State to just two touchdowns in eight trips inside Spartan Territory. Rams kicker Cayden Camper was tasked with scoring the bulk of Colorado State's points and delivered by converting all six of his field goal attempts to tie the Mountain West single-game record for field goals in a game. 

The Spartans dropped to 3-3, 1-1 on the year while Colorado State improved to 2-3, 1-0. San Jose State returns to action next weekend at home against San Diego State as part of homecoming weekend.

  • Nash finished 11-of-22 passing with the two touchdowns and an interception. His 18-yard strike to Deese, Jr. came with just over two minutes left in the first half and helped the Spartans go into halftime down just 16-7. 
  • Deese Jr., coming off one of the best games of his career in which he was named a John Mackey Award TIght End of the Week honorable mention, grabbed his team-leading third touchdown catch of the season. He finished with four catches for 52 yards.
  • Hamilton led all players with 84 yards on four catches, including the 34-yard score late in the fourth quarter, his second touchdown of the season. 
  • Four defenders finished with double-digit tackles for the Spartan Defense. Kyle Harmon made a game-high 14 stops while Jay Lenard made 13 tackles of his own, including 1.5 tackles for loss.
  • Will Hart averaged 45.7 yards on seven punts, including a 69-yard bomb, his second-longest of the season.
