COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—San José State volleyball player Haylee Nelson led the Spartans to two wins last week and has been honored as the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week for matches ending on October 31.
Nelson averaged 3.8 kills, 2.4 digs and 4.05 points per set and hit .306. In the win at Nevada, she recorded 18 kills and was one of three Spartans in double-figure kills. During the match, she recorded her 1,000th career kill in the fourth set to become the 16th player in school history to record 1,000 career kills. Against Fresno State, she was one of two Spartans to record 20 or more kills in the match as Nelson had a season-high 20 kills. Nelson also recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 17 digs to go with her 20 kills.
San José State begins the week with a 15-7 overall record and 9-3 MW mark, tying with Utah State for second place in the standings. The team goes on the road this week to play at Wyoming on Thursday night and at MW leader Colorado State Saturday afternoon.
