San José State Men's Basketball Inks Three in Early Signing Period

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State first-year men's basketball head coach Tim Miles signed Max Allen, Garrett Anderson and Leo Torbor to a national letter of intent during the initial signing period, announced on Thursday. All three will be incoming freshmen and will join the Spartans for the 2022-23 season.

"We are very excited to add three very talented young men to our program," said Miles. "It's a great start for the Spartans!"

Max Allen (6-9, 260, Forward)

  • Attends AZ Compass Prep in Chandler, Ariz., one of the top programs in the country
  • Averaged nearly a double-double his sophomore season with 14.8 points and 9.5 rebounds at Heritage Christian High
  • Chose SJSU over Boston College, DePaul, Houston and UNLV
  • AAU Team: Vegas Elite

Coach Miles on Allen: "Max is an exceptionally skilled big man. He has played at the highest level of AAU, High School, and Prep Basketball and those experiences translate into success in college basketball. Max is versatile in the sense that he can play inside and outside equally well and he has demonstrated the ability to step up in big games and against the best competition.
We've been impressed that Max has fought off a number of injuries and has pushed through much adversity the last couple of years while maintaining a great mindset. Max is a guy that really cares about winning and we are excited for him to bring that attitude to our program."

Garrett Anderson (6-7, 185, Guard)

  • Attends PHH Prep in Phoenix, Ariz.
  • Scoring 13.8 points per game and grabbing 4.4 rebounds per game this season
  • Just started playing organized basketball two years ago and was an elite baseball prospect
  • AAU Team: Arizona Select

Coach Miles on Anderson: "Garrett is a very exciting young player for us. He is a long, athletic wing with good size and most importantly, he can really shoot the ball. He also has a 40-plus inch vertical leap which makes for some great highlights! Garrett comes from a very athletic family and an excellent AAU program out in Phoenix, Arizona. We couldn't be happier to have him as a part of our program."

Leo Torbor (6-4, 175, Point Guard)

  • Senior at Park Center High School
  • Has a wingspan of 6-feet-10 inches
  • Played in all 21 games last season, averaging 7.0 points per game
  • AAU Team: Minnesota Select - Ohnstad

Coach Miles on Torbor: "Leo is a tremendous young man who is an excellent player. He is a strong combo guard that makes an impact on both ends of the floor. I truly feel Leo will emerge into an outstanding college player. He has played for a great high school coach in James Ware (former AC at Santa Clara) and will be prepared for the next level. We are excited to help develop Leo and continue to expand his game. "
