SAN JOSE, Calif. - After a thrilling 4-3 come-from-behind victory over No. 5 seed Utah Valley on Wednesday, the fourth-seeded San José State Spartans (10-6-3, 7-2-2) will take on WAC regular-season champion No. 25 Grand Canyon (14-3, 9-2) on Friday at 3:30 p.m. PT at GCU Stadium. The match will be streamed on ESPN+ and the Spartans are looking for their third result against a nationally-ranked opponent this season.
 

  • The Spartans trailed 2-0 through the first 13 minutes of the quarterfinal match against Utah Valley, and 3-1 in the first half
  • SJSU scored three unanswered goals, highlighted by a game-tying goal by Rudi Castro off a free kick and the game-winning goal by Willy Miranda in the 55th minute
    • Castro's goal was featured as the No. 6 play of the night on ESPN SportsCenter's Top-10 plays
  • San José State clipped then-No. 10 Grand Canyon on Oct. 16 with a 2-1 victory in San Jose
  • Miranda was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District® first team and is up for Academic All-American
    • He led the team with seven goals, including the game winner in the WAC quarterfinals, and 17 points
  • Goalkeeper David Sweeney made four crucial saves in the first half against Utah Valley which allowed the Spartans to rally
    • Sweeney made seven saves against Grand Canyon in the regular-season victory for the Spartans
  • Ryota Nakashima led SJSU with a goal and an assist in the 4-3 win over UVU in the quarterfinals
  • The Spartans are seeking their second WAC Championship appearance in the last three years, falling 1-0 to Grand Canyon in the 2019 WAC Championship Game in Seattle
