PHOENIX, Ariz. - Rudi Castro scored another highlight goal in the WAC Championship tournament in the 76th minute and David Sweeney made seven saves to lead No. 4 seed San José State (10-7-3) in a 4-1 defeat to No. 25 Grand Canyon (15-3) on Friday night at GCU Stadium in the WAC Championship semifinals. GCU scored three goals in the final 15 minutes to create separation and advance to the WAC Championship game.

- He finishes the year with six goals
- Sweeney's seven saves was the second most by the goalkeeper this season (11 saves in a win vs. UNLV)
- SJSU finishes the year 1-1-1 against nationally-ranked teams (tied No. 20 Stanford, 0-0 / def. No. 10 Grand Canyon, 2-1 / lost to No. 25 Grand Canyon, 1-0)
- The Spartans went 8-2-2 over their final 12 games this season
- After a scoreless first half, GCU tallied four goals in the second frame, including three in the final 15 minutes of the match
- Max Allen, Willy Miranda and Castro each had three shots for the Spartans
- This is the second straight loss for the Spartans against GCU in the WAC Championship Tournament (L, 1-0, in 2019 WAC Championship Game)
