COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San José State's Alvaro Cardenas is the Mountain West Freshman of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday. Cardenas, a native of Granada, Spain, helped lead the Spartans to a thrilling 78-76 victory over Cal State Fullerton in the home opener inside Provident Credit Union Event Center.
Cardenas played 22 minutes against the Titans and went 2-for-2 from behind the arc to finish with six points. The freshman shooting guard handed out three assists and grabbed two rebounds in his collegiate debut.
Cardenas and the Spartans will take on Stanford tonight at 8 p.m. inside the Maples Pavilion. The game will be televised on the Pac-12 Network and fans can download the Varsity Network Mobile App on their mobile device to listen to the voice of the Spartans, Justin Allegri.
