SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San José State men's basketball team will take on California Baptist University on Thursday at 7 p.m. inside the CBU Events Center. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and is part of the Abe Lemons Classic.
The Spartans are 1-1 on the season and are looking to win two of their first three games to start a season for the first time in a decade. SJSU began the 2010-11 season 3-0, and finished that year 17-16.
- Freshman guard Alvaro Cardenas was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week on Monday after tallying six points and three assists in SJSU's win over Cal State Fullerton in the season opener, 78-76
- Junior guard Omari Moore and sophomore forward Tibet Görener each finished with career highs at Stanford
- Moore led all scorers with a career-high 21 points
- Gorener finished with a career-high 14 points and four rebounds against the Cardinal
- San José State is holding its opponents to just 31 percent shooting from behind the arc this season
- The Spartans ranked inside the top 45 in the country last season in three-point field goal percent defense
- Senior Trey Smith hit the game-winning shot against Cal State Fullerton in the opener as time expired, and his heroics were No. 8 on ESPN's SportsCenter Top 10 Plays of the night
