COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Jose State senior defender Karlee Pottorff has been named to the 2021 Mountain West Women's Soccer All-Conference Second Team. It is the second all-conference honor for Pottorff, who wrapped up her Spartan career with 75 appearances and 55 starts in five seasons. The Mountain West made the announcement today.
A four-time team captain, Pottorff helped lead San Jose State women's soccer to four shutouts in conference play this season. Two of those shutouts came in the same weekend against two of the top teams in MW. Behind a strong back line performance by Pottorff and the defense, the Spartans defeated regular-season champion New Mexico in a 1-0 final, keeping the top-scoring team in the league at bay for the whole 90 minutes. Just two days later, the Spartan Defense was up to the task again as they held on for a scoreless tie against San Diego State, who was ranked third in the conference standings at the time of the match.
"Karlee really deserves this as she is an incredible leader within our program and has worked hard her entire career," head coach Lauren Hanson said.
Pottorff finished the year with 14 starts, including nine of the Spartans' 11 conference games. The Fresno native led the team in MW play in both total shots (17) and shots on goal (8) while leading the defensive charge. Pottorff was previously honored as a second team all-conference selection in 2019.
