Four Spartans Receive All-Mountain West Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—After recording the best Mountain West season in program history, four San José State volleyball players have received Mountain West All-Conference Honors, the most in program history.
 
Latahevai Lousi, Haylee Nelson, Mia Schafer and Sarah Smevog were selected to the team by the conference's head coaches. This is the second consecutive year that Lousi and Nelson have been named to the team and the third honor for each player. Smevog and Schafer received their first honor as a Spartan.
 
San José State finished the MW schedule with a 13-5 record, the most wins since joining the conference in 2013. The Spartans finished third in the standings, the best as a member of the MW and the highest since 1999-2001 when the team finished second each year in the Western Athletic Conference.

Hit a season-best .500 in a win at Nevada (21-3-36)

Second on the team in kills and blocks during conference play
Three aces against Utah State and two aces in three other matches

Fifth in the MW in kills with 241, 3.49 ps
Ninth in service aces with 22, 0.32 ps
Fifth in points with 274.0, 3.97 ps
Recorded double-digit kills in 13 matches
Five double-doubles in MW play
Season-highs of 20 kills and 17 digs in a five-set win over Fresno State
Recorded her 1,000th career kill in a five-set win at Nevada
Two or more aces in seven matches including five in a home win over Boise State
 
Mia Schafer, S, 5-8, SO, Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS
Averaged 10.25 assists in 69 MW sets played, good for second in the conference
Recorded 707 assists in those matches
10th in conference play in digs at 2.52 ps
Had eight double-doubles in the 18 matches played
Career-high 19 digs in a win over Utah State
Three aces in three matches
Career-best five blocks in a five-set win at Wyoming
Had at least one block in 15 of the 18 MW matches.
 
Sarah Smevog, L, 5-5, Sr., Corona, Calif./Santiago HS
Led the MW during the conference play in digs with 303, 4.39 ps
Averaged 0.84 assists and 0.28 aces ps
Recorded double-digit digs in every MW match
20+ digs in five conference matches including a season-high 28 in a five-set win over Fresno State
Two or more aces in four matches including a career-best five in a win over San Diego State
Recorded her 1,000th career dig in a match at Utah State on October 2
 


The Spartans begin play in the MW Championship Wednesday afternoon against Boise State at 1 p.m.
