Spartans Season Ends at MW Championship

LAS VEGAS, Nev.—Ryann Thomison finished her career hitting .435 in her final match in a Spartan uniform, but the San José State volleyball team fell to Boise State, 3-0, Wednesday afternoon in a first-round match at the 2021 Mountain West Championship inside Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas.
 

  • Thomison recorded only one hitting error in 23 attempts as she recorded a team-high 11 kills in the match. She added three blocks and an assist and finished the season as the team leader in blocks with 90.
  • Haylee Nelson recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 11 kills and 10 digs. She hit .348 for the match (11-3-23). Nelson led the team in kills with 365 for the 2021 season. For her career she has 1,113 kills, one shy of 12th place on the all-time San José State list.
  • For only the second time this season, Sarah Smevog was held to single-digit digs, recording nine in the match. Her 466 digs for the season is the seventh-highest total in school history.
  • Mia Schafer had 32 assists, two kills, an ace and a block. She finished the season with 1,039 assists, 37 service aces and 252 digs.
  • Latahevai Lousi led the Spartans in blocking with four in her final match in a Spartan uniform. She added four kills, three digs and a service ace. Lousi ends her career with 1,201 kills, ranking ninth all-time at San José State. She also finishes seventh all-time in kill attempts with 3,139.
  • Letizia Cammillucci added 10 digs, four kills and two blocks, while Madeline Boerstra had six kills and a solo block.

 
San José State finishes the 2021 season with a 19-10 overall record, the most wins since the 2006 season. The team was 13-5 in the MW, good for third place in the standings. Both are bests for the program since joining in 2013. Four Spartan players were named All-MW earlier on Wednesday – Lousi, Nelson, Schafer and Smevog.
