SAN JOSE, Calif. – Stephanie Torres scored a career high 12 points in Wednesday night's Thanksgiving tilt with the Academy of Art. The Spartans (3-3, 0-0 Mountain West) took down the Urban Knights, 62-49, at the Provident Credit Union Event Center. Torres finished the night with 12 points, three rebounds and two assists.
The Spartans improve to .500 on the young season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Spartans got out to a slow start, down 8-3 early, but worked into the paint to go up 17-11 after the opening frame
- The score remained steady through the second quarter to give the Spartans a seven-point advantage at halftime.
- San José State sparked the offense in the third period, outscoring the Urban Knights 22-14
- Academy of Art (2-3, 0-0 PacWest) had it's highest scoring quarter in the final frame (15 pts) to make a run at the Spartan lead, but SJSU hung tough to get the 13 point victory.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
- Torres scored a career high in points (12) and FG made (4) and tied a career high three rebounds and two assists.
- Cydni Lewis scored in double figures for a fourth consecutive game with 12 points, six boards and a block.
- Deja Ross tallied 10 points to mark her third double-digit outing of the season, adding five rebounds and a steal
- AoA's Alisha Wilson put up an Event Center record for blocked shots in a game by an opponent with seven blocks and led all scorers with a double double (16 pts, 10 reb)
- The Spartans out-rebounded the Urban Knights 42-33
- San José State shot above 50-percent from the field and from three in both the first and third quarters
