SPARTANS IN THE ROCKIES THIS WEEK, FACE MW LEADER SATURDAY : San José State has taken to the altitude this week as the Spartans travel to Wyoming and Colorado State for key Mountain West matches. The Spartans play at Wyoming at 7,220 feet Thursday night and at MW leader Colorado State Saturday afternoon. San José State begins the week with a six-match winning streak after two 3-2 wins last week at Nevada on Tuesday and home with Fresno State this past Saturday evening.

•The Spartans are tied with Utah State for second-place in the MW standings at 9-3. Colorado State sits atop the standings at 10-2. The top-six teams advance to the 2021 MW Tournament in Las Vegas, November 24-26, at the Cox Pavilion.

•After leading the Spartans to two wins last week, Haylee Nelson was named as the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week for matches ending on October 31.Nelson averaged 3.8 kills, 2.4 digs and 4.05 points per set and hit .306.
•Spartan setter Mia Schafer recorded 100 assists in last week's five-set wins over Nevada and Fresno State. She had a season-high 52 assists in the win at Nevada, followed by 48 assists against Fresno State. She recorded double-doubles in each match to give her eight for the year
•With six consecutive wins, San José State begins the week with a 15-7 overall record and 9-3 MW mark. The 15 wins are the most for the Spartans since the 2018 season when the team was 16-11 and 11-8 in the MW. SJSU's best finish in the MW standings was fourth in 2018 at 11-8. The six-match winning streak is the longest since the 2001 season when the team won eight consecutive matches.
•Five times this season, Sarah Smevog has recorded 20 or more digs in a match - 28 in a home win over Fresno State, 24 in a win at Boise State, 24 in a home loss to Wyoming, 22 in a win at Saint Mary's and 21 in a win over Santa Clara to start the season. For her career, Smevog has recorded 20 or more digs in 16 matches including a career-best 35 at Utah State in 2019.
•Graduate student Ryann Thomison recorded double-digit blocks in the win over Fresno State, the first time in her career and the first time for a Spartan player since the 2016 season to record 10 or more blocks. Thomison had two solo and nine block assists for 11 total blocks. The last Spartan player to have 10+ blocks was Nandyala Gama with 10 blocks against UNLV on October 1, 2016.
•The Spartans play the final two home matches of the season next week as the team hosts Utah State next Thursday, November 11, at 4 p.m., followed by Boise State on Saturday, November 13, at 1 p.m.
