Corpus Ties For 38th At Asian Pacific Amateur Championship

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates ----- San Jose State University's Carl Corpus posted a final round three-over par 74 to finish tied for 38th place at the 12th annual Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship.

Corpus' 72-hole total was 286 on the par 71, 6,986-yard Dubai Creek golf club course. In each of his final three rounds, Corpus rolled in four birdies each day, but the difference between his second round 70, third round 72 and the 74 was the bogey and double bogey counts negating his birdies on the day. In his final round, Corpus had a double bogey on the par-4 2nd hole and the par-3 14th hole.

One of 50 golfers representing 28 Asian and Pacific nations to make the 36-hole cut, Corpus was playing for an opportunity at a 2022 exemption into The Masters. Keita Nakajima of Japan, the No.1 men's amateur player in the world won a playoff with Taichi Kho of Hong Kong on the second hole after both players posted scores of 14-under par 270.

Corpus is the second Spartan in the last three years to compete in the Asian-Pacific Championship. Former Spartan Sean Yu finished tied for 25th with a two-par score of 290 in 2019.

San Jose State concluded its fall season at the end of October with a third-place finish at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational and will resume competition in late January at the Southwestern Intercollegiate. GOLF Channel will provide live coverage each day of the tournament scheduled for January 24 through 26 at the Westlake Village course.
