Santa Barbara, Calif.----- San Jose State University's season-high men's water polo seven-match winning streak ended abruptly in a 13-4 loss to UC Santa Barbara in a Golden Coast Conference match.
Sam Nangle of No. 7-ranked Gauchos (20-8, 2-2 GCC) scored the first two goals before the 5:00 mark of the first quarter and UCSB led the rest of the way.
No. 8-ranked San Jose State (15-13, 2-3 GCC) did not get on the scoreboard until the 6:43 mark of the second when Bende Pardi registered his team-high 52nd goal of the season.
UC Santa Barbara led 6-2 at halftime and 10-2 after three quarters. The Spartans had their opportunities to score, but had one of their lowest shooting percentages in a match converting 15.4 percent of their attempts (4-of-26).
San Jose State goalkeeper Yahav Fire was credited with 11 saves in the Spartans' final conference match.
The Spartans close out the regular season on Saturday, November 13, hosting Stanford in a non-conference match at the SRAC pool on campus beginning at 1:00 p.m.
