Fire & Pardi - 2021 Honorable Mention All-Americas

Bridgeport, Pa.----- Make it a three-peat for San Jose State University men's water polo senior Yahav Fire and joining the Spartans' goalkeeper as a 2021 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) honorable mention All-America is freshman Bende Pardi.

Fire was one of the top goalkeepers nationally ranking third in total saves (289) and saves per match (10.7) and fifth in save percentage (.517) as San José State posted its first winning season since the program was reinstated in 2015 with a 16-15 overall win-loss record and advanced to its first Golden Coast Conference (GCC) Tournament semifinal round match.

The 2021 first-team All-GCC goalkeeper also was named an honorable mention All-America in 2018 as a freshman and 2019 as a sophomore.

"We're very proud of them. Yahav (Fire) has been the backbone of our defense and the team leader for a long time. It's really good to see he is recognized as one of the best goalies in the NCAA," said San Jose State University men's water polo head coach Bruce Watson.

"Bende getting this honor as a freshman is really exciting, because it shows me the future of the program. So, we're proud of that."

Pardi adds the honorable mention All-America honor after being named to the Golden Coast Conference all-freshman team and an honorable mention All-GCC choice. He was the Spartans' leading goal scorer with 53, in assists (23), and steals (27), and was second on the squad in field blocks (10). Pardi was fourth in the conference in goal scoring and tied for sixth in steals.

The 2021 awards mark the third time two Spartans were named honorable mention All-America players in the same season. In 2019, Fire and Finn Pardon were honored. In 2015, goalkeeper Matej Matijevic and field player Akos Balazs were selected.

San Jose State finished 2021 with its first winning record (16-15) and advanced to a conference tournament semifinal since the program was reinstated in 2015. The Spartans, facing 17 top-10 teams, were ranked as high as tied for seventh nationally during the season and finished ninth in the final Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) national rankings.
