Potoshnik Promoted; Moevao and Jones Join Spartan Football Staff

            San Jose State University lead assistant athletic performance coach Aaron Potoshnik was promoted to director of football athletic performance and Lyle Moevao and Anthony Jones joined the Spartans football program in staff positions. Moevao will be a football analyst focusing on defense; Jones, the director of player personnel.
 
            Since joining the Spartans in January 2019, Potoshnik worked with the football, basketball, golf, track and field, women's soccer and women's tennis teams. He was with the 2020 San Jose State University football team during its entire Mountain West championship season.
 
            Potoshnik came to San Jose State after 2.5 years at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La. He held several strength and conditioning positions and worked with the Demon football, men's basketball, softball, women's soccer, women's tennis, and track and field teams.
 
            The 2015 Washington State University graduate majored in exercise science. He earned his master's degree in exercise science from Northwestern State in 2018.
 
            Potoshnik began his professional career in 2014 at his alma mater as a strength and conditioning intern and an exercise physiology and performance laboratory research assistant. He moved across the state to the University of Washington for the 2016 spring semester as strength and conditioning intern and worked with the entire Husky 22-sport student-athlete population.
 
            He is a certified as a strength and conditioning specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association, holds certifications from USA Weightlifting as a sports performance coach Level 1; a Precision Nutrition certified coach Level 1, and the American Heart Association in CPR/AED.
 
            Moevao (pronounced Moy-vow) comes to San Jose State from the University of Northern Colorado where he was the running backs coach and recruiting coordinator for the 2020 season. During the spring 2019, he was the running backs coach for the San Antonio Commanders of the Alliance of American Football (AAF). Moevao was the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator at Lewis and Clark College for the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
 
            The 2010 Oregon State graduate majored in sociology and was a quarterback on the Beavers football team during the 2006 through 2009 seasons. As a starting quarterback, Oregon State posted a 14-4 win-loss record and won the 2007 Emerald Bowl in San Francisco and the 2008 Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas. Moevao went on to play two seasons of professional football in France and Japan.
 
            Jones spent the 2020 season as the San Diego State University recruiting coordinator. During the 2017 through 2019 seasons, he was the Contra Costa College passing game and special teams coordinator. Jones also coached the team's quarterbacks and wide receivers.
 
            The 2009 graduate of Jacksonville State University majored in business management. He began his coaching career as an assistant football coach at Union (Mo.) High near St. Louis, in 2011. He spent the next three seasons as an assistant football coach at Pace (Fla.) High. Jones moved to California in 2015 and became the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach at Bishop O'Dowd High in Oakland, Calif. In 2016, Bishop O'Dowd won its first California Interscholastic Federation state championship defeating Valley View High of Moreno Valley, Calif., for the 5-AA title.
