Spartans Lose First of Two Against Fresno State

SAN JOSÉ, Calif. – 
Ella Ogier led San José State (3-11, 0-3 Mountain West) in a 78-57 loss to Fresno State (6-8, 2-1 Mountain West) inside the Provident Credit Union Event Center on Thursday night. A second half surge by the Bulldogs was the deciding factor in a tale of two halves.   

Thursday night's contest was a rescheduling of a January 3 game that was postponed due to COVID-19 related concerns within the Bulldogs' program.
 
Due to COVID-19 related concerns within the San José State women's basketball program, the Spartans' originally scheduled conference opener at New Mexico on December 28 was postponed and has been rescheduled for January 24 in Albuquerque, N.M. The conference game against Wyoming (Jan 6) was also postponed due to COVID-19 related concerns within Cowgirls' programs and has not yet been rescheduled.
 

  • Ogier scored 18 points and grabbed five rebounds
  • Cydni Lewis had five points, a team-high eight rebounds and three blocks
  • Deja Ross added nine points
  • The Spartans shot 62.5 percent in the opening frame
  • SJSU tallied 15 points off turnovers
  • Fresno's Haley Cavinder and Wytalla Motta each had 23 points
  • The Bulldogs shot 53 percent and 48 percent from 3-point

UP NEXT
San José State travels to Fresno State on Saturday, January 15 to play game two of the back-to-back series. Game time is 2:00 p.m. and will be available to watch live on the Mountain West Network.

The Spartans' next home game is Wednesday, January 19 at 6:00 p.m. and $1 hot dogs will be available at concessions. Tickets can be purchased here.

New COVID Entry Policy:

  • All personnel with a SJSU Tower ID (students, staff and faculty) will only have to show Tower ID and ticket for entry
    • Tower ID holders are within the SJSU Covid protocols
  • Those without a Tower ID will be required to show proof of vaccination with their card, a photo on their phone or QR code
  • Fans that are not vaccinated will be required to show proof of a negative COVID test (Age 3 and up)
    • For Antigen tests, negative result of COVID test must be within 24 hours
    • For PCR tests, negative result of COVID test must be within 48 hours
  • The antigen test can include a take-home test, sold at Walgreens, CVS and other pharmacies

Mask Policy:

  • Fans are required to wear masks indoors at all times unless actively eating or drinking
