SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State Athletics experienced an incredible display of generosity to close out the 2021 calendar year, witnessing 478 One Spartan Nation Members providing $2.7 million in support of SJSU student-athletes, far exceeding the December campaign goals. The year-end campaign produced a 1,700 percent increase over the goal of raising 10 full tuition scholarships valued at approximately $150,000.
"Something special is happening here, and it's made possible by the growing number of members who are building champions in the classroom, in competition and in the community," said Nate Olson, Assistant AD for Annual Giving.
- A wave of support for the Athletics annual fund totaled $493,050 from 473 members – shattering the department's December campaign goals to add 250 members and raise the value of 10 full tuition scholarships (roughly $150,000)
- Major investments totaling just over $2.2 million were donated to support an array of areas including facility enhancement gifts, the establishment of student-athlete scholarship endowments and the Athletics Director's discretionary fund
- Jim Bernstein ('67 Accounting) and George Delucchi ('59 Accounting) became the newest Forever Spartans by making estate gifts, while Kevin ('87 Business Finance) & Sandy Swanson made a major addition to their commitment to transform the South Campus Athletics Complex
- For the first time in department history, 100 percent of coaches and staff in the Athletics Department became One Spartan Nation members during the year-end push
"It's been special to see our newest Forever Spartans establish legacies through estate gifts to support the future of this department and our student-athletes," said Dominic Urrutia, Assistant AD for Premium Seating & Development. "We are so grateful for all of our members who love San José State University and have such a desire to see the Spartans succeed."
