Spartans Tie For 10th At Southwestern Invitational



WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.-----
In its first tournament of the spring season, the San Jose State University men's golf team finished in a tenth-place tie at the 43rd Southwestern Invitational presented by Topgolf.

The Spartans finished with a 54-hole total of 902 and were tied by No.50-ranked SMU in a 12-team field that included six teams ranked in GolfStat's top-50. No. 3-ranked Arizona State won the team championship with an 834 total on the par 72, 6,992-yard North Ranch Country Club course. Host Pepperdine, ranked No. 7, was second at 847.

• Kotaro Murata was the top San Jose State finisher tying for 31st place at 222. Murata was among the tournament leaders in par-4 scoring (+3).

Carl Corpus was next for the Spartans at 224 and a tie for 37th place. Corpus was among the tournament leaders and led the Spartans with 13 birdies over 54 holes.

Kristopher Stiles tied for 42nd at 227. Stiles was among the tournament leaders in pars made with 32.

• Vijay Srinivasan, playing as an individual, tied for 50th at 231. Srinivasan and his teammate Corpus were among the tournament leaders in par-5 scoring (-5).

Caleb Shetler, tied for 59th at 235.

• Nick Watts,  was 62nd at 238.
 
The Spartans are in action next at Amer Ari Invitational, Feb. 3-5, in Waikoloa, Hawaii.
