Spartans Head to Albuquerque for New Mexico Team Open

SAN JOSÉ, Calif. – The San José State men and women's track and field teams will travel to Albuquerque for the New Mexico Team Open on Saturday, January 29 at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

  • Micah Hairston is first in the Mountain West and 6th in the West Region in the 60-meter hurdles with his preliminary heat time of 8.03 at the WSU Cougar Open (1/14)
  • Roman Johnson set a facility record at The Podium, winning the men's 60-meter dash with a PR of 6.75 at the WSU Cougar Open (1/14). Johnson's time puts him at the top of the Mountain West in the 60m and 8th in the region.
  • Kaiya Johnson won the women's 60-meter dash in a time of 7.68 at the WSU Cougar Open (1/14), good to move her into third on the all-time San José State women's indoor track and field list
  • Mekhi Evans Bey is first in the conference and 7th in the West Region in the men's 400 meters after setting a facility record at The Podium and winning the men's 400m with a time of 48.44
  • High jumper Kyle Jankans' 6-8 3/4 jump at the Cougar Classic Open (1/14) put him at a tie for 2nd in the conference and 7th in the region
  • Freshman Bryson Smith is third in the MW in weight throw with a throw of 59-2.25 at the Cougar Classic Open (facility record)
  • Sydney Bentley and Sophie Liao will make their season debuts for the Spartans on Saturday

  • The men's 60mH preliminary heat will take place at 11:45 a.m. and the finals at 1:05 p.m. (Hairston)
  • The men's 60m prelims are at 11:35 a.m. and followed by the finals at 2:10 p.m. (Johnson, Jalen Adams, Paul McCants, Harry Overstreet, Jabriel Smith)
  • The women's 400m will take place at 1:45 p.m. (Bentley, Daryia Greene, Sarah Mosteller)
  • The women's 200m will follow the men's heats beginning at 2:45 p.m. (Johnson, Liao, Bentley, Greene, Gabby Spencer, Mahkaia Lee)
  • Men's weight throw will start at noon (Smith, Ty SeligmanJacob Lopez, Bryan Quintero, Gabriel Coronado)

 
 
Teams: 22 teams will compete at the University of New Mexico Team Open. Two other Mountain West teams (UNLV and New Mexico), three PAC-12 teams (UCLA, Arizona State and Washington State), UC Irvine, CSU Bakersfield, Cal Poly Pomona, Grand Canyon, New Mexico State and more will compete on Jan. 29.
