BOX SCORE (PDF)
SAN JOSE, Calif. – Omar Gastelum had four RBIs, Theo Hardy added three more and Robert Hamchuk had leadoff first pitch home run to start the season to lead San José State (1-0, 0-0 Mountain West) in a 14-9 win over Omaha (0-1, 0-0 Summit) for an opening day victory from Excite Ballpark Friday night.
The Spartans got off to a great start when Hamchuk hit a first pitch leadoff home run in the bottom of the first and then later in the inning Jack Colette scored when Gastelum was hit by the pitch with the bases loaded to give SJSU the 2-0 lead. Omaha would make it 4-2 until Gastelum hit a two-run double in the third to tie it up. Hardy hit a three-run triple in the fourth and that was all the Spartans needed as they controlled the game from there.
- Gastelum finished the day 2-for-3 with a run scored as well
- Hunter Dorraugh went 3-for-5 with four runs scored and one RBI including two doubles on the day
- Charles McAdoo scored three runs and had a hit plus a stolen base
