Spartans' Power Play Provides Fresno State Invite Day 1 Split

FRESNO, Calif.----- San Jose State University's best power play performance of the season powered the No.11-ranked Spartans to a 14-5 victory over Biola highlighting the Spartans' first-day doubleheader action in the Fresno State Invite.

The Spartans (8-7) were 4-of-6 (66.7 percent) on the power play in the non-conference win over Biola. San Jose State's previous best converting power plays this season was a pair of 50 percent results in wins over Cal Baptist and Brown in the season-opening UC Santa Barbara Winter Invite.

San Jose State finished the day with a split of its first two matches after losing 13-8 to No. 10 UC Davis in its tournament opener.

With the win over Biola, the Spartans now have won more matches in 2022 (eight) than they did in the combined shortened seasons of 2020 (two) and 2021.

San Jose State wraps up action in the Fresno State Invite on Sunday, February 20 taking on Fresno Pacific at 10:30 a.m. and No. 8 and host Fresno State at 3:30 p.m.
