PALO ALTO, Calif.-
Jenessa Ullegue pitched a shutout to lead San José State softball (4-4, 0-0 Mountain West) to a 3-0 win over UIC (2-6, 0-0 Horizon) on Day 2 of the Stanford Invitational at Smith Family Stadium. Ullegue (3-0) had six strikeouts in 7.0 innings pitched and threw 92 total pitches.
 
The Spartans dropped the first game of the day to Seattle (6-2, 0-0 Western Athletic Conference), 2-1. Trenity Edwards went 2-3 with a walk in the 5th inning. Alyssa Graham scored the Spartans' only run on a ground out RBI by Malia Luna in the 7th inning. 
 


GAME 1:

  • San Jose State stranded a season-high 12 runners on base vs. Seattle U.
  • The Spartans had runners on base in every inning except the third.
  • Edwards and Luna each had two hits for the Spartans.
  • Seattle scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The Redhawks' run in the fifth inning was unearned aided by a pair of Spartan errors.
  • Graham scored San Jose State's only run when Luna grounded out to second base with one out in the 7th inning to cut the deficit to 2-1
  • Caroline Bowman (0-2) threw all six innings in the circle, allowing two runs on six hits and five strikeouts 

 
GAME 2:

  • Ullegue pitched a shutout with 6 K's
  • The Spartans scored all of their runs on UIC pitching errors
  • Aubrie Thomas went 1-2 with one RBI and one run scored. 
  • Luna recorded her first stolen base of the season in the 6th inning
  • San Jose was able to get out of a loaded bases situation in the 4th inning when Ullegue retired three straight batters, striking out two of them
  • The Spartans ended the 5th on a double play

The Spartans take on tournament host Stanford tomorrow at 2 P.M. to close out the Stanford Invitational.
