Roman Johnson Wins 60m Dash at Mountain West Indoor Championship, Spartans Set Multiple School Records

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -
Roman Johnson and Paul McCants took first and second in the men's 60m dash final on Saturday at the Mountain West Indoor Championships this weekend in Albuquerque. Johnson and McCants ran 6.77 and 6.89, respectively, with McCants running a lifetime best.
 


  • Jalen Adams nearly completed the podium sweep of the men's 60m, finishing fourth in the 60m dash final in a time of 6.99. He also set a PR in his qualifying heat (6.91)
  • Gabby Spencer finished third in the women's 200m with a PR of 23.80, breaking her previous SJSU record set two weeks ago at the Don Kirby Invitational
  • Mahkaia Lee ran a lifetime PR of 7.52 in the qualifying heat of the women's 60m dash, setting a new school record, only to have it broken moments later by Sophie Liao, who won her qualifying heat in 7.48 (PR and new school record)
  • Lee had a busy weekend, as she also collected a second place medal in the Long Jump, setting a San José State school record in 6.26m (20' 6½")
  • Sydney Bentley ran a 55.80 in the women's 400m, setting a PR and new SJSU program record
  • The women's 4x400m (Bentley, Sarah Mosteller, Kaiya Johnson, Spencer) set a school record 3:45.16, finishing sixth in the event
  • Micah Hairston won his the men's 60mH qualifier in a lifetime best 7.86 and finished 4th in the final
  • Kyle Jankans finished second in the men's High Jump with a lifetime best jump of 2.14m (7'0¼"), moving him into 3rd all-time at San José State
  • Bryson Smith earned third in the men's weight throw in a lifetime best throw of 18.60m (61')
  • Daniela Salazar (10:32.49) and Jicel Fernandez (10:34.50) each set lifetime PRs in the women's 3000m
  • Nicholas Harper set a personal best of 47.94 in the qualifier for the men's 400m for the fastest men's 400m time of the season
