Spartans Sweep Silicon Valley Classic I

SAN JOSÉ, Calif. -
Alyssa Graham went 4-for-8 with two RBIs as San José State softball (9-5, 0-0 Mountain West) won its final two games of the weekend on Sunday and swept the Silicon Valley Classic I, 5-0. Graham had two singles, a double and a triple between the two games. The Spartans had an offensive explosion in the fourth inning of Game 1, scoring eight runs and defeating Sacramento State (6-8), 12-7. In the second game of the day, SJSU edged out Saint Mary's in a 2-1 victory.

Jenessa Ullegue (6-0) got the win in the circle in both games, throwing 9.1 total innings, had nine strikeouts, allowed nine hits and four runs with no walks. Ullegue pitched a complete game vs. Saint Mary's. San José State cleaned up its defense with no errors on the final day of action. 
 


GAME 1

  • The Spartans scored 12 runs on 12 hits and 11 RBIs
  • Ashley Rico (3-for-4) got things going for the Spartans with a leadoff single up the middle 
  • Jessica Giacoma went 1-for-2 with a three RBI triple
  • Trenity Edwards went 2-for-3 with three RBIs 
  • Caroline Bowman (0-2) started the game in the circle and had four strikeouts in 2.2 IP and allowed three hits and two runs
  • Ullegue came in for Bowman in the third inning and threw 2.1 innings before Lacie Ham (2-3) closed out the final two innings


GAME 2

  • Jules Ronquillo had an RBI on a sacrifice bunt that scored Jillian Figueroa in the third inning
  • Graham went 2-for-3 and scored on a ground out by Edwards 
  • Ullegue went 7.0 IP and had six strikeouts, allowed six hits and one earned run
  • The Spartans stranded six runners on the base paths


NEXT UP
The Spartans travel to Phoenix, Arizona for the Grand Canyon University Invitational starting Friday, March 4. San José State will face Montana for the second time this season on Friday at 12 p.m. and on Saturday, March 5 at 9:30 a.m. The Spartans will play Binghamton University twice and Grand Canyon on Sunday morning to close out the tournament.
