Spartans Tie For 12th At Amer Ari Invitational


KAMUELA, Hawaii----- For the third consecutive day, San Jose State University posted an under par team score and finished tied for 12th at the Amer Ari Invitational men's golf tournament.

The Spartans signed off on a 54-hole total of 14-under par 850 and were tied with UC Davis in the 19-team field that included nine teams in GolfStat's top-20 rankings. Ranked 69th by GolfStat, the Spartans finished ahead of three teams, TCU, Oregon, and Oregon State, ranked in front of San Jose State, and battled No. 8 Texas and No. 18 Auburn all day for a spot in the Amer Ari's top-10. No. 4 Oklahoma State with an 814 edged No. 11 Texas Tech for the team title by one stroke.

• For the second time this season, San Jose State was under par in each round in a three-round tournament using the five-player, score best four format. The Spartans did the same at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational in the fall.

• For the first time as a Spartan, sophomore Kristopher Stiles had multiple rounds of sub-70 golf in a tournament. After an opening round career best five-under 67, Stiles fired another 67 in the final round for a nine-under par 207 total to tie for 15th place. He was the tournament leader in the 115-player field with four eagles - at least one each day including his last one on the par 4, 2nd hole in the final round.

• After a second-round 66, Carl Corpus tied for 34th place at five-under par 211. In three tournaments this season, Corpus has finished with an under par total.

• Freshman Nick Watts produced his best round of the tournament in the final round with a three-under par 69, his fourth sub-70 score this season. He tied for 65th place at even par 216 (73-74-69).

• Kotaro Murata, with an even-par 72 in the second round (75-72-73=220), and Caleb Shetler with an opening round one-under 71 (71-76-74=221), each had a round of par or better golf during the tournament.

• Vijay Srinivsasan played as an individual entry and shot a 222 (74-73-75).
