Spartans Lose Hard-Fought Dual Versus Colorado State

FRESNO, Calif.—Alba Pedrero Galindo, Rozalina Youseva and Raquel Villan Pereira all won their singles matches on Saturday as the San José State women's tennis team open Mountain West play with a hard-found 4-3 loss to Colorado State in Fresno.
 

  • The Spartans entered singles play down 1-0 after the Rams won the doubles point.
  • The Rams led the contest 3-0 before SJSU won three consecutive singles matches to tie the score at 3-3.
  • Pedrero Galindo got the first Spartan point with a 6-2, 6-2, win at the number-one position.
  • Youseva then recorded her eighth singles win of the spring season with a 6-2, 7-5, win and the second Spartan point.
  • Villa Pereira needed three sets to win 0-6, 6-3, 6-3, to tie the contest at 3-3.
  • The final point came down to the fifth singles match and Jovana Babic. She won the first set 6-4, lost the second set 7-6 (8-6) and fell in the deciding set 6-4.

San José State is now 4-7 on the season and 0-1 in MW play. The Spartans face Wyoming Sunday at 9 a.m. in Fresno.
