SAN JOSE, Calif. - Kevin Velo, 2019 San Jose Staté graduate, won his first-ever professional tournament on Sunday with an 18-under 270 to capture the 2022 Termas de Rio Hondo Invitational in Termas de Rio Hondo, Argentina. Velo responded after losing the lead on hole No. 9 with a triple bogey with three birdies over his final five holes to win by one over Argentina's Tommy Cocha and Jorge Fernández at 17-under 271.
- Velo competed for the men's golf team at San José State from 2015-19
- This is his first professional tournament win
- Earned All-Mountain West accolades during his senior season in 2018-19
- Tallied a team-best scoring average of 71.40 as a senior
- First and only four-time Venturi Award Winner, team's most valuable player
- Velo earned 500 Totalplay Cup points to charge into a tie for third in the season-long race to move up to the Korn Ferry Tour
- This was the fourth start for Velo's rookie season on PGA Tour Latinoamérica
- It is his second professional victory, but first PGA Tour-sanctioned tour, capturing the Outlaw Tour's Match Play Championship this past January in Arizona
