Malate Tied for 32nd At Augusta National Women's Amateur

AUGUSTA, Ga.—San Jose State senior women's golfer Antonia Malate started her play at the Augusta National Women's Amateur on Wednesday by shooting a 3-over 75 in the first round at the Champions Retreat Golf Club. She finished the day tied for 32nd, five shots behind the leaders.

Malate started her round with a birdie on her first hole, but consecutive bogeys on 7, 8, and 9 left her a two-over at the turn. She then started a pattern of birdie-bogey-par for the next six holes before finishing par-bogey-par for her 75.

The tournament field will play the second round on Thursday before the field is cut to 30 players. The entire field will play an official practice round at Augusta National on April 1, before the final round on Saturday, April 2, featuring the top-30 players who made the cut.
