Spartans Fight Til Time Ran Out Against Sun Devils

SAN JOSE, Calif.—Hannah Henry made key saves in goal for the Spartans Saturday, but the comeback bid for the No. 12 San José State women's water polo team came up seconds short as No. 10 Arizona State 11-10, at the SRAC Pool.
 

  • Seven different Spartans scored in the match including four freshmen.
  • Cila David led the team in scoring with three goals including two during the fourth-quarter comeback. Maiken Pardon added two goals in the match including one in the first quarter to give SJSU an early 2-1 lead.
  • Henry was key in goal, making 12 saves including two five-meter penalty blocks to hold the Sun Devils scoreless on penalty shots.
  • The Spartans were outscored in the second quarter 5-1, but then outscored the Sun Devils 4-1 to close the match.
  • Arizona State took an 11-6 lead early in the fourth quarter, before the Spartans scored four goals during the period. Riley Agerbeek narrowed the score to 11-10 with 31 seconds left in the match, but SJSU could not get the ball back in time to get off a productive shot.  

 
San José State goes on the road next week for matches at California on Saturday, March 12 at 1 p.m., and at Pacific on Sunday, March 13 at 12 p.m.
