BERKELEY, Calif. - The Spartans had 14 individual event wins at the Cal Opener on Saturday at Edwards Stadium to kick off the 2022 outdoor season. Cal Berkeley hosted athletes from San José State and San Francisco and the Spartans' used it as an opportunity to measure the team's depth.
MEN
- Bryan Quintero won the Hammer Throw with a lifetime best 60.82m
- Paul McCants won the 200m dash in a time of 21.73
- Micah Hairston won the 110mH (14.14) and the 400mH (54.82)
- The 4x400 team of Micah Hairston, Paul McCants, Jalen Adams and Christian Rodriguez won the relay event in 3:34.41
- Adams, McCants, Harry Overstreet and Bashar Barksdale won the 4x100 relay in a time of 41.46
- Michael Chadwick and Omar Pina both set lifetime bests in the 1500m
WOMEN
- Grace Togiai threw 16.11m (PR) to win the women's Shot Put
- Lina Shubert won the High Jump with a jump of 1.71m
- Jordan Patterson had a 5.46m long jump to earn first in the event
- Gabby Spencer finished first in the 400m dash in a time of 56.50
- Dariya Greene (unat-San Jose) placed first in the 200m in a time of 24.97 and Sophie Liao followed right behind in 25.01
- 1500m: Daniella Salazar ran a season-best 4:42.32 and Jicel Fernandez ran a PR of 4:47.11
- The 4x400 team ran a 4:00.23 (Sydney Bentley, Sarah Mosteller, Spencer and Liao)
- The 4x100 team of Bentley, Mosteller, Emilia Sjostrand and Jordan Patterson ran 48.51

The Spartans will compete at the Cardinal Classic at Stanford on March 19.
