Spartan Tennis Victorious On Sunday

SAN JOSE, Calif.—Raquel Villan Pereira clinched the match for the Spartans with her straight-set singles win on Sunday as the San José State women's tennis team defeated Nevada, 4-1, at the Spartan Tennis Complex.
 

  • Villan Pereira was tied 5-5 in the second set and won the final two games to win the match 6-2, 7-5.
  • The Spartans started the day by winning the doubles point. Irena Muradyan and Rozalina Youseva won the first doubles match, 6-1, followed by Alba Pedrero Galindo and Lara Marco Mas at 6-4 for the point.
  • Youseva won the first singles match of the day in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, to put SJSU up 2-0.
  • Olaya Bances Iglesias won her singles match, 6-1, 6-0, just a couple of minutes after Youseva to give San José State a 3-0 lead.
  • After Muradyan fell in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, Villan Pereira won to give the Spartans the win and their first Mountain West victory of the season.

 
The Spartans travel to Albuquerque next weekend for contests against New Mexico on Friday, April 15, and Air Force on Saturday, April 16.
