Stiles and Watts Lead Spartans at 75th Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -
Kristopher Stiles carded a final round 2-under 68 to finish in a tie for 17th place (218/+8), while Nick Watts posted a 1-over 71 (216/+6) to finish in a tie for 13th place to lead San José State on the final day of the 75th Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Club on Wednesday, presented by Topgolf and Titleist. The Spartans saved their best round for the last day, shooting a 1-under 349 to finish in 10th place with an overall score of 1,119 (+69), finishing 10 shots ahead of USC and 16 in front of No. 12 Stanford.

No. 9 Texas edged defending champion No. 8 Pepperdine by one, 1,075 (+25) to 1,076 (+26). No. 6 Washington carded the best round of the day with an 8-under performance, shooting 342 to finish in third place with an overall score of 1,091 (+41). Pepperdine's Dylan Menante posted a final round 67 (-3) to earn medalist honors with an overall score of 1-under 209, holding off the 13th-ranked player in the country, Texas' Pierceson Coody, and BYU's Carson Lundell and Colorado State's Rasmus Hjelm at 2-over 212.

  • Luigi Wong tallied a final round of 2-under 68, his second-best round of his collegiate career; He finished T32 with an overall score of 222 (+12)
  • Zubair Firdaus competed as an individual and posted an even-par 70 this afternoon, finishing in a tie for 24th place (220/+10)
  • Kotaro Murata and Carl Corpus each recorded a 1-under 69; Murato tallied an overall score of 227 (T51/+17) and Corpus finished with 229 (T61/+19)
  • The Western Intercollegiate witnessed the best scoring on the final day as the field improved almost five strokes from the opening round (Round 1=77.39, Round 2=76.18, Round 3=72.24)
