Descalzi Scores Twice In Spartan Finale

LOS ANGELES, Calif.—Olga Descalzi scored twice on Sunday as the San José State women's water polo team finished sixth at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament with an 11-5 loss to Indiana at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center on the USC campus.

  • Descalzi got the Spartans on the scoreboard with a power play goal in the first quarter to tie the match at 1-1.
  • Lauren Woolley scored the second goal of the first quarter on a pass from Descalzi to again tie the match at 2-2.
  • Cila David gave SJSU its only lead of the match with a goal on the 6-on-5 advantage with 3:23 left in the first quarter. Descalzi was credited with her second assist of the match.
  • The final two Spartan goals were scored in the third quarter, both on the power play. Descalzi scored at the 5:45 mark, while Riley Agerbeek scored the final Spartan goal of the match with 2:06 left in the third quarter.
  • Hannah Henry made eight saves in goal.
  • The Spartans were 4-of-6 on the man advantage.

The Spartans finish the season with an 11-16 overall record.
